What’s new in kitchen design? If you’re prepping your home to sell—or if you just want to bring your kitchen up-to-date—you’ll love these cool new trends in kitchen design.
Automated faucets and lights
Now you can have all the convenience of automated functions in your own home, just like you see at restaurants and office buildings. A sensor-activated switch can turn on your water faucet or lights, which is perfect for busy cooks (or even for small children who can’t reach the tap).
The color gray
Cabinets are going gray this year, quietly replacing white as the “go to” neutral color in the kitchen. A soft gray can be paired with stained wood or almost any bright color you choose—and works well for an easy, subtle change.
These sinks are deep enough to fill up with large pots and pans, while making cleanup easier with the wide apron front. They also bring a “classic” touch to a contemporary kitchen.
Hydraulic cabinet doors
When you’re working in a small space, hydraulic cabinet doors may be the answer. They fold up and out of the way with the touch of a button—and the soft “swish” sound of the door closing eliminates the annoying sound of cabinet doors banging.
Quartz looks as sleek as granite, but does not require all the expensive, labor-intensive sealing. Bonus: you can clean it with simple soap and water, and it resists heat, stains, and scratches.
Brightly colored sink basins
While kitchen sinks are traditionally white or stainless steel, you can quickly update your kitchen with a splashy, bright sink on a neutral background. It’s a great way to introduce a spot of color into your kitchen, or to match a colorful backsplash. Look for new sinks in bright greens, reds, and blues.
Pullout trash cans and recycle bins
Hide ugly-looking trash cans in an easy pullout drawer that is part of your cabinetry. Look at models with partitioned bins, sealed tops (to minimize odor), or foot-touch switches (for easy opening).
